12 Cheetah Short Film - Jackson Wild Awards Finalist
We are really excited to announce that our 12 Cheetahs short film has been selected as a Finalist in the 2022 Jackson Wild Media Awards for two categories: Conservation - Short Form and Cinematography - Short Form.
It is estimated that fewer than 7,000 African cheetahs are living in the wild today, with the population having halved over the past four decades.
In August 2021, the ambitious mission to reintroduce 12 cheetahs from South Africa and Malawi back into the Zambeze Delta ecosystem in Mozambique took place. This would not have been possible without The Cabela Family Foundation, Ivan Carter Wildlife Conservation Alliance , ANAC, The Endangered Wildlife Trust , African Parks, and Zambeze Delta Conversation who came together to make this relocation possible.
A special thank you to the Cabela Family Foundation, founded by Dick and Mary Cabela through their shared love for wildlife and Africa to further conservation on the continent. They have played an important role in restoring the Zambeze Delta's historic biodiversity, which had been decimated by the Civil War.
In my view, hope for conservation lies in this sort of large scale cross-organisation collaboration. It's amazing what is possible when passionate individuals work towards a common goal. This reintroduction of 12 cheetahs to the Zambezi Delta ecosystem has the potential to expand the southern African Cheetah metapopulation by 30% in the coming years.
